Alexander Dennis has secured a £57m firm order from Liverpool City Region Combined Authority for 207 buses for the region’s new franchised bus network. Contract options, if fully exercised, could raise the vehicle count to 357 at £95m, bringing the Alexander Dennis fleet for the region to approximately 400 buses.

The firm order comprises 117 low-emission Enviro400 double-deckers, 60 low-emission Enviro200 single-deckers in two lengths, and 30 zero-emission Enviro100EV, all built to the City Region’s specification for its ‘Metro’ bus network. All will be fully built or completed in Britain for delivery in 2027.

The new vehicles join 109 Enviro200 currently being delivered for the start of franchised services in St Helens and the Wirral on 6 September 2026, and 58 Enviro400EV double-deckers procured previously. Alexander Dennis was selected for four of the six available procurement lots in the competitive tender.

Low-emission Enviro400 and Enviro200 models feature SmartPack efficiency technology, combining engine stop/start with e-cooling and auxiliary load management to cut fuel consumption and CO2e emissions by 18–24% against conventional Euro V diesel. Both models can be converted to battery-electric operation in the future through Alexander Dennis’s AD Repower service.
