BYD’s H1 profit drop partly cushioned by export strength

BYD’s H1 2026 results showed a 20.5% drop in net profit, to CN¥12.33bn (US$1.84bn), with revenue falling 7.1% to CN¥344.82bn as a backsliding local market and fierce price war continue to affect all Chinese players. However, the decline obscures a meaningful recovery in Q2: net income rose 30% year-over-year to CN¥8.2bn, marking BYD's first profit increase in five quarters, as a sharp 30% Q1 drop in vehicle sales narrowed to just 3.24%.
