Ettifos has been selected to supply its V2X-AIR aftermarket unit to the Connected Vehicle Acceleration Zone (CVAZ), a US$20 million vehicle-to-everything (V2X) programme across Maricopa County, Arizona. The project runs from 2024 to 2028, connecting up to 650 roadside units with approximately 400 on-board units (OBUs) over 5.9 GHz communications.

Ettifos was selected through competitive procurement to support the Maricopa County Department of Transportation in delivering CVAZ. The programme is funded through a cooperative agreement with the US Department of Transportation and forms part of the Federal Highway Administration’s national V2X rollout effort.

V2X-AIR is a compact, Buy America Build America (BABA)-compliant aftermarket OBU supporting cellular V2X (C-V2X) direct communications. The unit allows existing vehicles to receive and exchange safety and mobility data with connected roadside infrastructure without factory-integrated hardware.

CVAZ applications include Emergency Vehicle Preemption, Vulnerable Road User safety, Transit Signal Priority and Freight Signal Priority. The deployment covers Phoenix, Tolleson, Avondale and unincorporated Maricopa County, as well as the US 60 corridor managed by the Arizona Department of Transportation.
