Honda is to show its Mobile Power Pack e: swappable battery at the Airports Council International North America conference in Philadelphia from 14 to 17 September. The pack recently became available in the US for business-to-business integration, and Honda is putting airport ground equipment forward as an application.

Named potential uses include passenger assistance vehicles, baggage and utility carts and tugs, and ramp supervisor vehicles. Being portable and removable, the pack can also serve electric products built by other OEMs.

Honda Mobile Power Pack e: with charger

Honda developed it to address charging times, range and battery cost. Standardising one removable pack across varied equipment moves the constraint from charging time to pack inventory.

Airports Council International and its five regions set a 2050 net-zero target for member airports in 2021. Honda has its own 2050 goal covering carbon neutrality across products and corporate activities.

Joe Juliano, Business Unit Lead of Sustainability and Business Development at American Honda, said: “Airports are dynamic environments with extensive mobility needs both inside and outside of passenger terminals, and, with the Mobile Power Pack e: Honda offers a standardized zero-emissions energy solution that can reliably power a variety of equipment without downtime. With decades of electrification experience, Honda is a natural collaborator for companies seeking to develop zero-emissions products and energy solutions for airports and beyond.”
