Innoviz Technologies has agreed to develop a LiDAR-based perception stack for highway driving with a top 10 global automotive OEM, the company has announced. The unnamed manufacturer will use the system, built on Innoviz’s InnovizTwo LiDAR hardware and running on an Nvidia-powered compute platform, to explore potential for its future vehicle programmes.

Under the collaboration, Innoviz will develop and validate a complete LiDAR-based perception stack for a highway operational design domain (ODD), the company said. The project pairs Innoviz’s LiDAR sensing with perception software designed to deliver real-time 3D understanding of the road environment.

The stack’s core functions include Point Cloud Plus and Obstacle Detection, which classifies each pixel in a scene as drivable or non-drivable and flags in-path hazards such as tyres, lost cargo and pallets. Additional functions cover object detection and classification, sorting road users into categories including pedestrians, cars, trucks and two-wheelers.

Omer Keilaf, chief executive and founder of Innoviz, said developing a complete LiDAR-based perception stack for highway driving reflects where the industry is heading, noting that the company was built to co-design hardware and software together. He added that delivering the stack to automotive-grade standards demonstrates precise, real-time 3D understanding of the surrounding environment.
