Job cuts pile up as OEMs pushed to drastic change

On 26 June, Volkswagen Group boss Oliver Blume told German business publication Manager Magazin that up to 100,000 jobs are to be cut, or around 15% of the company's global workforce—two months earlier, CFO Arno Anlitz had stated a fundamental transformation was necessary for VW to survive. Assembly plants in Hanover, Zwickau and Emden will reportedly be shuttered once the models they produce are phased out, meaning between 2029 and 2031.
