The Kaiyi X7 Hybrid has launched globally, built around the company’s Super Hybrid system that pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with two electric motors. The powertrain delivers a combined maximum output of 265 kW and 530 N·m of torque, switching between five drive modes depending on speed and battery charge.

The five modes are EV, series hybrid, parallel hybrid, direct engine drive and regenerative braking. EV mode handles low-speed driving, series mode keeps the engine running efficiently at low-to-moderate speeds, parallel mode combines engine and motor output for hard acceleration or climbing, and direct drive reduces conversion losses at steady highway speeds.

The dedicated 1.5-litre engine reaches a peak thermal efficiency of 44.5%, with the electric motor sharing the power demand in stop-start traffic and during acceleration to help the engine avoid inefficient operating ranges. Under New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) test conditions, depleted-battery fuel consumption is 5.2 L/100km.

The X7 Hybrid offers a combined range of up to 1,200 km and an NEDC electric range of up to 105 km, enough to cover most commutes and school runs on electric power alone. Kaiyi said the model is intended to support both daily driving and longer journeys where charging access is limited.
