Renault Trucks and UMS United Mining Supply have marked ten years of partnership supporting bauxite mining operations in Guinea, with a fleet of 350 Renault Trucks K vehicles currently transporting ore from extraction sites to port facilities in the Boké region around the clock. More than 600 vehicles have been delivered to UMS since the partnership launched in 2016 with local distributor TGH Plus.

Guinea is the world’s leading exporter of bauxite, and UMS operates its fleet across demanding terrain with each vehicle covering in excess of 190,000 kilometres annually, bringing total fleet distance to more than 66 million kilometres. Fleet availability is sustained by more than 150 in-house mechanics working three rotating shifts, supported by an on-site spare-parts inventory managed in coordination with Renault Trucks.

Monthly joint analysis of telematics data shapes fuel efficiency and operational cycle decisions, while field experience has directly informed Renault Trucks’ vehicle development, with adaptations first developed for UMS subsequently incorporated into its broader range for demanding environments. Annual training programmes covering mechanics, drivers and in-house trainers are supplemented by twice-yearly specialist visits focused on eco-driving practices and safety.

The commercial relationship illustrates a broader shift in how truckmakers are structuring long-term fleet contracts in extractive industries, where uptime guarantees and integrated support have become as significant as the initial vehicle specification.
