Stellantis halts plants in Canada, Mexico; lays off US staff

US President Donald Trump proclaimed his tariff policies a bulwark for domestic manufacturing, but Stellantis is already on damage control. On 3 April 2025, the automaker announced that it was “temporarily” laying off 900 US workers at five sites across Michigan and Indiana. These facilities are involved in powertrain and stamping work.
