tado° has added smart charging to its home energy app, allowing electric vehicle (EV) owners to automatically schedule charges during the cheapest and greenest grid periods under dynamic electricity tariffs. The EV Smart Charging feature works across more than 15 vehicle brands and multiple wallbox types, saving owners up to €300 (US$348) annually.

Users set a departure time in the tado° app and select their vehicle brand. The feature’s scheduling algorithm then analyses grid prices across the coming days, shifting charges to the lowest-cost, lowest-carbon windows. tado° claims an average 30% reduction in annual home charging costs, with compatible brands spanning Audi, BMW, Mini, Mercedes, Tesla and Volkswagen.

The feature is available on iOS and Android at €2.99 (US$3.47) per month, with a six-month free trial. tado° Energy and aWATTar customers receive it at no additional cost, while those on the firm’s Hourly tariff, available in Germany and Austria, can pair it directly with real-time market pricing.
