Trimble and Travis Road Services have integrated the Trimble CoPilot in-cab navigation system with Travis’s European truck parking network, giving drivers access to more than 750 registered locations across 26 countries. The integration aims to reduce the time drivers spend searching for safe, compliant rest stops before their driving hours expire.

A European Commission study shows drivers spend an average of 45 minutes per day searching for a suitable rest location, contributing to fatigue and, for female drivers, safety concerns. Parking-related delays cost an estimated €19,200 (US$22,080) per truck annually through lost time, unnecessary mileage and fuel waste.

Nearly 40% of European cargo thefts occur at unsecured roadside parking or rest areas. Criminal activity in this segment is estimated to cost the logistics sector €8.2bn (US$9.4bn) annually.

Through CoPilot, drivers can search for Travis locations along their planned route or by current position, then follow a direct link to complete a booking. Parking instructions are available in more than 10 languages. Fleet managers receive a single periodic Travis invoice covering all parking costs.

Chris Quin, Trimble’s Vice President of Europe Sales, said parking access needed to be embedded in fleet management tools rather than treated as an afterthought. Travis sales and business development manager Max Zillinger said the integration removed guesswork from the driving day, benefiting driver welfare and fleet efficiency.
