UL Solutions has opened an automotive electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) laboratory in Toyota City, expanding testing capability for high-voltage and software-defined vehicles in the world’s third-largest automotive market. The Automotive Technology and Innovation Center begins operations on 1 July and is among the few EMC facilities in Japan supporting high-voltage, high-current, and high-speed rotational testing.

The 2,322 square-metre facility, located in Japan’s Tokai region, houses test chambers capable of handling up to 25,000 RPM, torque exceeding 3,500 Nm, and power supplies delivering up to 1,500 volts and 1,000 amps. These specifications support testing of passenger vehicles and high-voltage electrical systems under demanding operating conditions.

Japan manufactured more than eight million vehicles in 2025, and the Toyota City site strengthens UL Solutions’ existing automotive testing footprint, complementing the Automotive Technology Center in Miyoshi City. The firm’s global EMC network spans Asia, Europe, and North America.
