Verdek and Andromeda Power have announced a technology partnership targeting the vehicle-to-everything (V2X) market, promising a 90% reduction in infrastructure costs against conventional bidirectional charging systems. Launched at the Vehicle-to-Grid USA 2026 summit, the platform enables electric vehicles to deliver power to buildings and the grid at up to 133 kW without additional hardware.

The MotorTransformer™, developed by Andromeda Power, repurposes a parked electric vehicle’s traction motor as an isolated transformer, enabling native high-power alternating current (AC) bidirectional operation. The approach eliminates the need for additional hardware, added vehicle weight or replacement of existing building AC infrastructure.

Conventional bidirectional charging connectors can exceed US$100,000 each, against the platform’s US$1,500 onboard target cost. The system achieves 97.9% round-trip efficiency and has been validated through bench testing at 50 kW.

Verdek brings 18 years of commercial deployment experience and relationships with ChargePoint and ABB, while Andromeda Power contributes foundational intellectual property. A Nissan Leaf prototype validation is planned for 2026, with first commercial deployments expected in early 2027, as the V2X services market is projected to exceed US$50bn by the early 2030s.
