Volkswagen has launched Volkswagen and Jetta models in Uzbekistan, with the market managed by Volkswagen’s China operation and supplied from Chinese production. The move extends the German OEM’s use of its Chinese manufacturing base as it pursues growth markets beyond China and prepares local assembly in Tashkent.

The launch was marked at an international forum in Tashkent attended by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Robert Cisek, Chief Executive of Volkswagen China. The initial model line-up includes the Tiguan L Pro, Passat Pro and Teramont Pro from Volkswagen Passenger Cars, alongside Jetta models.

Volkswagen said Uzbekistan’s vehicle market reached more than 461,000 units in 2025, after demand more than doubled since 2021. It plans to sell through 13 locations by year-end and expects its dealer network in the country to almost double by 2028.

The sales launch will be followed by local production in partnership with Alyans Auto through a semi-knocked down facility in Tashkent. The plant is expected to start operations in late 2026, adding local value creation to Volkswagen’s China-led export model.

The company said it is also assessing opportunities in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, the CIS region and selected African markets. That makes Uzbekistan an early test of how far Volkswagen can use its China production system for selective international expansion.
