Yfore has debuted its Occupant and Driver Monitoring System (ODMS), combining a driver and occupant monitoring smart mirror with automotive-grade cabin radar, at the opening of its North American manufacturing facility in Georgia. The system spans seven monitoring functions and is engineered to support five-star Euro NCAP ratings.

Conventional vision-only systems struggle with seatback occlusion, footwell blind spots and covered occupants. ODMS pairs a high-definition mirror camera with roof-mounted radar using radio frequency (RF) penetration to detect micro-breathing through blankets, clothing and tall seatbacks in rear rows and footwells.

The seven functions cover driver fatigue, distraction, unresponsive state and phone use, alongside seatbelt status, occupant classification and full-cabin life presence detection. One integrated architecture satisfies both driver monitoring system (DMS) and occupant monitoring system (OMS) requirements simultaneously.

Embedding optics in the mirror and pairing them with a compact radar module removes the need for multiple headliner cutouts and complex roof wiring. Yfore positions ODMS as scalable across vehicle platforms and global automaker programmes.

In-cabin monitoring is shifting from optional to a regulatory baseline as Euro NCAP and General Safety Regulation II (GSR II) standards mandate verified driver and occupant detection. Consolidating DMS, OMS and life presence detection in one module turns a sensor selection into an architecture decision, with direct implications for tooling cost and cross-model certification.
