Connecticut’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has selected AmpUp’s Adapt & Earn managed charging project as the only pilot to scale from Cycle 1 of the state’s Innovative Energy Solutions (IES) programme. The 18-month pilot, conducted with Eversource Energy, covered approximately 1,000 charging ports across 200 sites in eight commercial customer segments.

Adapt & Earn addressed a longstanding barrier to managed public charging by delivering incentives natively through the AmpUp app, allowing drivers to accept short charging pauses during peak hours for immediate wallet credits with no telematics or additional hardware. The pilot covered workplaces, multifamily buildings, train stations, fleets and campuses.

During a regional heatwave in which wholesale electricity prices spiked more than 3,600%, the project delivered grid relief at roughly a third of the cost of the peak supply it displaced. Driver engagement was strong: 91% reported zero inconvenience during pauses, 87% found the opt-in process simple and 83% said they would participate again.

Site host enrollment was 100% with zero opt-outs, and 42% of new installation funding was directed to environmental justice communities. PURA has now invited AmpUp and Connecticut’s utilities to jointly design a statewide deployment, framing managed public charging as a scalable grid flexibility resource as EV adoption grows.
