Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team has signed a multi-year autonomous trucking partnership with Aurora Innovation, naming the self-driving company as an official partner. Aurora branding will appear on the team’s kit starting at Portland International Raceway on 7-9 August, extending to driver firesuits and the No. 6 car’s engine cover for the 2027 season.

Aurora develops the Aurora Driver, a self-driving system that enables Class 8 trucks to operate without a human behind the wheel. The company said trucking, a US$1tn US industry, faces an ageing driver population, rising operating costs and underused assets, challenges it argues autonomy can help address without displacing jobs.

Aurora said it became the first company to launch a commercial self-driving service using heavy-duty trucks on public roads last year, and has since released its second-generation driverless truck. The company plans to expand its operations across the Sun Belt region.

Kevin Thimjon, president of Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team, said the partnership reflects a shared focus on safety and reliability between the two organisations. Ossa Fisher, president of Aurora, said the deal aligns two organisations built around precision and performance, adding that Aurora looks forward to growing alongside one of motorsport’s most recognised teams.
