Aeva and Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems have agreed to develop a 4D LiDAR-based active safety and collision mitigation solution for Class 8 trucks, targeting mass production via Bendix’s Fusion platform. The programme extends LiDAR’s use from autonomous vehicle development into mainstream driver assistance, addressing a North American market of approximately 300,000 Class 8 trucks sold each year.

Bendix’s Fusion collision mitigation solution spans most major Class 8 OEM platforms and may provide a scalable route to high-volume deployment. Aeva’s 4D LiDAR sensors and perception software will support the effort, with a level 2+ driver assistance capability as the target.

The collaboration underscores a broader industry shift toward LiDAR-based perception in active safety systems, as the technology’s capabilities expand beyond autonomous vehicle applications. For Aeva, it represents the first programme targeting mass production of a LiDAR-based driver assistance solution for commercial vehicles.
