BYD has introduced the Dolphin G DM-i to the European B segment, bringing its fifth-generation plug-in hybrid system, DM 5.0, to the compact segment for the first time, priced from €23,990 (US$27,828) in France. The car combines a 105 km all-electric range with 1,040 km total range and fuel consumption of 1.4 l/100 km with a fully charged battery.

The Dolphin G DM-i measures 4,160 mm long on a 2,610 mm wheelbase, with 425 litres of boot space, 212 hp maximum system output and 0–100 km/h in 8.3 seconds. Two Blade battery options cover 40 km and 105 km of electric range respectively; the larger 18.3 kW/h variant adds 39 kW DC fast charging, achieving 10–80% in 26 minutes.

DM 5.0 Super Hybrid technology

DM 5.0 advances a new 1.5-litre petrol engine (95 hp/70 kW, 16:1 compression), an improved thermal management system with direct Blade battery cooling, and an industry-first integration of three powertrain controllers. Standard equipment across variants includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Google integration and vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

In a statement, Stella Li, Executive Vice-President of BYD, said: “The arrival of the DM 5.0 illustrates how this commitment extends even to our most compact models. It also offers great flexibility on long journeys, with a combined range of up to 1,040 km on a full charge.”
