Clean Motion joins Vinnova composite recycling project

Swedish light electric vehicle developer Clean Motion is participating in Wavecomps, a research project funded by Vinnova under Sweden’s Fordonsstrategisk Forskning och Innovation programme. The project, coordinated by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden, has been awarded SEK 4,951,900 (US$495,190) in total funding and runs from June 2026 to January 2029.

The Wavecomps consortium, which also includes Podcomp, DIAB and Luvly, is focused on repurposing composite sandwich panels currently treated as production waste into structural components and storage units for light electric vehicles. The project represents an opportunity for Clean Motion to contribute to a scalable circular value chain for composites in the mobility sector.

Wavecomps targets a reduction in material waste of at least 50% and a 30% cut in virgin raw material use, with a projected decrease in climate impact of 20–35%. Clean Motion’s share of the funding amounts to SEK 813,000 (US$81,300).

In a statement, William Collings, Chief Technology Officer at Clean Motion, said: “We already use sandwich composite materials in EVIG today, and through Wavecomps we will explore the possibility of keeping those materials in a circular loop rather than letting the residual material become waste. This is fully in line with our philosophy and represents a meaningful contribution to sustainable manufacturing.”
