Ford Motor Company has announced a US$1bn investment for a new Kentucky Truck Plant paint shop in Louisville. This brings Ford’s total committed investment in Kentucky to approximately US$5bn across three sites, with groundbreaking at Kentucky Truck Plant expected before year end.

Kentucky Truck Plant, which produces a vehicle every 45 seconds, assembles F-Series Super Duty trucks, Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators. More than 11,500 Ford workers are based in Kentucky, where the company has operated since 1913, with more than 120,000 further jobs supported through its supply network.

In a statement, Jim Farley, President and Chief Executive, Ford Motor Company, said: “For more than a century, Ford and Kentucky have grown together, and we’re investing to ensure that relationship remains strong for generations to come. These investments demonstrate our confidence in Kentucky’s workforce, our commitment to American manufacturing, and our belief that the future of mobility and energy will be built right here in the United States.”

Louisville Assembly Plant is being converted to produce Ford’s Universal Electric Vehicle Platform, including the Ford Fathom midsize electric pickup expected in 2027, in a US$2bn project anticipated to create or secure around 2,200 jobs. A US$2bn investment at Glendale-based Ford Energy Systems will create at least 2,100 jobs producing battery energy storage systems with at least 20 GW/h annual capacity.
