Hirose Electric has launched the FX36 Series, a 0.5mm pitch board-to-board connector designed for battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain applications, featuring 125°C heat resistance and an integrated vibration absorption structure. The FX36 halves connector pitch from the FX26 Series’ 1.0mm to 0.5mm, supporting high-density printed circuit board (PCB) layouts in compact X-in-1 powertrain designs.

The FX36 builds on the FX26 Series (1.0mm pitch), which found widespread adoption in inverters and converters for large drive motors and established Hirose Electric’s credentials in high-temperature, high-vibration connector applications. The FX36 extends those capabilities to the higher-density board layouts demanded by X-in-1 powertrain systems, while also supporting weight reduction and automated assembly.

The FX36 incorporates a floating design that absorbs PCB misalignment of ±0.7mm in the X and Y directions and ±0.5mm in the Z direction, accommodating assembly tolerances in high-vibration environments. A vibration absorption structure further damps PCB amplitude in the Z direction by 0.05mm during operation, with a two-point contact design maintaining connection integrity.

Growing system integration demands in BEV and HEV powertrains have shifted board-to-board connector requirements beyond what cable connections and 1.0mm pitch variants can deliver in space-constrained, high-temperature enclosures. Hirose Electric has released a 40-position, 20mm-height variant; development is under way on 40, 50, 60 and 80-position options across 15, 18 and 20mm heights.
