Honda has integrated Google Gemini into vehicles equipped with Google built-in, replacing Google Assistant with a more conversational AI system. The upgrade allows drivers of select Civic, Accord, Prelude, CR-V, Passport and Pilot models to interact naturally with the cabin assistant without relying on precise commands or repeating context already given.

Unlike its predecessor, Gemini maintains context across multiple exchanges, allowing drivers to layer instructions and ask follow-up questions without restarting the request. Where Google Assistant required a prompt such as “find the nearest restaurant for lunch,” Gemini can handle a multi-part request covering ratings, routing and outdoor seating in a single exchange.

The integration also introduces Gemini Live, a free-flowing conversational mode activated by the prompt “Hey Google, let’s talk.” Beyond navigation and vehicle controls, the feature can assist with trip planning, news summaries and meeting preparation, extending the AI’s role into territory automakers have traditionally considered their own.

Gemini covers eight model and grade combinations in the Honda range. The Accord Touring Hybrid qualifies from 2023; the Civic Si, Sport Touring Hybrid sedan and Sport Touring Hybrid hatchback from 2025. The 2026 model year adds the Pilot and Passport across all trims, the CR-V Sport Touring Hybrid, and the Prelude across all grades.

In a statement, Jessika Laudermilk, Assistant Vice President of Honda National Auto Sales, said: “Connected technology is no longer a convenience for Honda customers—it’s an essential part of the driving experience.”
