Toyota Motor Europe, BMW Group, Bosch and Repsol have launched a six-month pilot in Spain deploying around 20 Toyota and BMW vehicles on 100% renewable gasoline, starting in early July 2026. The initiative uses Repsol’s Nexa 95 fuel and Bosch’s digital tracking system to test whether existing petrol vehicles can be decarbonised through renewable fuels at scale.

The project introduces Vehicles running Exclusively on Eligible Fuels (VEEF), a framework covering renewable and low-carbon fuels that meet European Union (EU) sustainability criteria. Repsol is currently the only company supplying 100% renewable gasoline at public service stations in Spain, with its Nexa 95 product produced from EU sustainability-compliant feedstocks.

Bosch’s ‘Digital Fuel Twin’ system collects and validates refuelling data across vehicle data, fuel station records and fuel card transactions to certify renewable fuel usage across the full supply chain. Spain was selected based on the availability of renewable gasoline at public stations, strong partner collaboration and Toyota España’s operational support.

The pilot is designed to generate evidence for EU policy discussions on technology-neutral approaches to decarbonising road transport. With EU policy currently centred on full electrification by 2035, the four companies will share findings with policymakers and industry stakeholders as part of a broader case for including renewable fuels within future regulatory frameworks.
