Honda’s transmission plant in Russells Point, Ohio, has marked its 30th anniversary having built more than 26 million units since 1996, including the two-motor hybrid system fitted to the CR-V, Accord, Civic and Prelude. Honda Transmission Plant-Ohio (TMP-O) employs more than 1,200 associates and carries an investment of over US$1 billion.

The plant opened producing four-speed automatic transmissions before progressing through five- and six-speed units and pivoting to continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) and hybrid drivetrains. Annual capacity now covers more than one million transmissions and 500,000 two-motor hybrid systems, with several globally exclusive specifications making TMP-O one of Honda’s principal drivetrain manufacturing sites.

The facility also holds a record in environmental performance: in 2014 it became the first major automotive manufacturing plant in the United States to draw substantial electricity from on-site wind turbines, earning a US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR certificate for energy efficiency in 2019. Furnace covers installed more recently prevented 164 metric tons of CO2 from entering the atmosphere in 2025.
