Honda Xcelerator Ventures (HXV) has invested in Quemix, a company developing quantum computing algorithms and software, to deepen its existing collaboration with Honda. The investment aims to accelerate the practical application of quantum technology in the development of future materials.

Honda and Quemix have worked together through joint research using quantum computing. Milestones include a world-first quantum state readout technology in 2025, and a 2026 quantum algorithm that speeds up Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, a foundational method in materials science.

Quemix aims to move quantum technology beyond research and experimentation toward real-world implementation. The investment reflects Honda’s wider push toward carbon neutrality by 2050 and its broader portfolio of startup investments across energy, robotics and computing through HXV.

In a statement, Mahito Shikama, director and executive officer at Honda Motor, said: ‘Honda will continue to take on the challenge of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 through a multifaceted approach.’ He added that the investment would strengthen Honda’s relationship with Quemix and accelerate its technological growth.

Honda Xcelerator Ventures said it will continue to identify, collaborate with and invest in startups shaping the future of technology. It added it looks forward to supporting Quemix as it develops new quantum computing applications across Honda’s wider businesses and research functions.
