Horse Powertrain has opened a North American office in Michigan, creating 32 roles spanning several business functions. The London-headquartered supplier of combustion, hybrid and range-extender systems already works out of Europe, China and South America, counting Renault Group, Nissan and Geely Auto among its 25 customers.

The company employs more than 19,000 people at 18 plants and five research and development sites. It supplies powertrain-agnostic systems covering engines, transmissions, hybrid platforms, range extenders and power electronics.

None of the customers named by Horse Powertrain is a North American automaker, and the office is intended to close that gap. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, the Detroit Regional Partnership and Southfield City Council.

Matias Giannini, Chief Executive of Horse Powertrain, said: “The opening of our new North American office is an important moment for Horse Powertrain. North America is a key strategic market for our company, and one that will benefit greatly from our world-class portfolio of combustion and hybrid powertrains. In the years ahead, we aim to establish ourselves as a major partner for North American OEMs as they continue to offer a diverse range of vehicles to consumers.”
