Volvo Group, Daimler Truck, Toyota Motor Corporation and five energy and infrastructure partners are forming a German hydrogen mobility initiative aimed at scaling heavy-duty deployment by 2030. The programme will coordinate truck fleets, refuelling stations and hydrogen supply, with the partners targeting competitive fuel pricing and total cost of ownership.

Bosch, Air Liquide, TotalEnergies, TEAL Mobility and MB Energy are also involved, alongside German policymakers. The group says stations will be deployed on strategic European corridors in step with hydrogen-powered truck fleets.

The initiative is intended to address a core barrier to hydrogen trucking: vehicles, infrastructure and fuel supply need to develop together. Its commercial case will depend on reliable hydrogen access at prices that allow operators to approach competitive total cost of ownership.

The companies present hydrogen as complementary to battery-electric trucks. Their plans focus on customer-oriented refuelling infrastructure and a coordinated supply chain covering vehicles, stations and fuel across heavy-duty road transport.
