Joby nears FAA certification as manufacturing ramps up

Joby Aviation expects the first flights of its eVTOL Integration Pilot Program (eIPP) in Texas in September, targeting its first paying passengers in 2026. The company also reported its strongest quarterly progress yet in the fifth and final stage of FAA type certification, with five aircraft now flying and 12 more in production as its manufacturing ramp continues.

Joby raised its full-year 2026 total revenue outlook to a range of US$115m to US$125m, helped by US$36.2m in second-quarter revenue from its Blade business. The company also disclosed US$2.3bn in cash and short-term investments as of 30 June 2026, and expects to use between US$385m and US$415m of cash in the second half of the year.

The period also brought two new partnerships. A joint venture with Toyota laid groundwork for a manufacturing alliance and high-volume production, while a strategic tie-up with Atoms, the industrial AI and infrastructure company founded by Travis Kalanick, will develop multimodal transportation hubs across Joby’s US launch markets.

In a statement, JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Joby, said: “With meaningful progress on certification, partnerships, infrastructure and commercial readiness, we are unlocking the third dimension of mobility and turning electric vertical flight from an extraordinary technology into an everyday reality.” He added that the progress was giving people their time back and changing the way people move.
