Lexus has staged the world premiere of the new Lexus NX, its compact crossover sport utility vehicle (SUV), with global market introduction planned from late 2026. A redesigned hybrid system, silicon carbide (SiC) inverter technology and a 30% battery capacity increase in the plug-in hybrid variant headline the technical refresh.

The NX 450h+ plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) gains 8% more battery output alongside the capacity increase, targeting over 100 km of electric range in World Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) testing. DC fast charging is supported for the first time, and a transverse battery cell layout lowers the centre of gravity while increasing lateral body rigidity.

The new e-Axle integrates the transaxle, motor and power control unit (PCU) into a compact single assembly, with SiC power semiconductors reducing inverter losses to improve fuel economy. System output spans 145 kW in the 300h to 215-240 kW in the 450h+.

Body rigidity gains 25% at the floor and 30% at the suspension towers, with tuning completed at the Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama (TTC-S) and the Nürburgring. Sensory Concierge coordinates lighting, fragrance, music and climate across three personalised cabin modes.

Lexus Safety System+ gains expanded Pre-Collision System (PCS) coverage and an updated Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) capable of detecting cyclists and motorcyclists. The NX has recorded 1.9 million sales across more than 90 countries since its 2014 debut.
