MAN builds 1,300 e-trucks in its first electric year

MAN Truck & Bus has marked the first year of electric truck series production at its Munich headquarters, where around 1,300 electric models have been built alongside diesel variants on a single mixed line. Production is set to expand to Kraków, where the eTGL and eTGM will enter manufacture later this year.

The Munich plant assembles the MAN TGS and TGX in electric and diesel variants at a combined rate of around 100 trucks per day, regardless of drivetrain. Sustaining that dual-technology output has required qualifying more than 5,000 employees in high-voltage technology. In a statement, Michael Kobriger, Production Board Member, said: “The production of electric and diesel trucks on a single line has proved its worth in the first year of series production and offers MAN a high degree of flexibility with regard to demand, variant diversity and delivery capability. With our ambitious quality standards, we will continue to do everything in our power to support our customers on the road to the future.”

The Kraków launches will add the eTGL at 12 tonnes and the eTGM at 16 tonnes, giving MAN an electric portfolio spanning 12 to 50 tonnes. E-trucks with seven battery packs achieve a claimed range of up to 830 km from a gross capacity of 623 kW/h, with packs produced in-house at Nuremberg. With 95% of MAN’s greenhouse gas emissions arising during the use phase (Scope 3, Category 11), the push to electrify carries a structural urgency alongside commercial logic.
