McLaren Automotive has revealed the McL 6GT concept at the 2026 Monterey Car Week, previewing a new, more exclusive supercar line beyond its core portfolio. Inspired by the McLaren M6GT, Bruce McLaren’s original, unfulfilled supercar project, the concept features McLaren’s first manual transmission since the McLaren F1 in 1992.

The concept is built around a full carbon fibre monocoque and bodywork, paired with a V8 engine driving the rear wheels through the manual gearbox. McLaren said the lightweight construction delivers both performance benefits and a clear expression of the car’s design philosophy.

Design cues include a low, wide stance echoing the M6A Can-Am racer behind the original M6GT, a Kammback tail, and a ‘Racing Loop’ taillight motif drawn from the M6GT’s original lights. Bruce McLaren’s signature appears in the engine bay, and the Speedy Kiwi logo is etched into the fuel filler cap.

In a statement, Nick Collins, Chief Executive of McLaren Automotive, said: “The McLaren McL 6GT imagines what our inspirational founder had wished to complete but with six additional decades of innovation and passion woven through every element, creating a modern icon of driver connection. It is symbolic of the bold, provocative and hugely exciting future that we are preparing to realise.”

McLaren said a production McL 6GT will follow in 2028. A one-off recreation of the original M6GT, built by McLaren Special Operations, was shown at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.
