Polestar 4 gains SUV variant ahead of September launch

Polestar has confirmed a sport utility vehicle (SUV) variant of the Polestar 4, set to go on sale from 2 September. Rear motor versions will return up to 630 km and dual motor variants produce up to 544 hp, with both body styles sharing retuned chassis components.

The 630 km figure applies to rear motor variants measured on the worldwide harmonised light vehicle test procedure. The SUV adds storage versatility to the coupé’s proposition, sharing a 400V electrical architecture, and will be manufactured in Busan, South Korea.

Polestar describes the Polestar 4 as its best-selling model, and the SUV variant extends the range without a new nameplate. The approach targets buyers who want greater storage capacity alongside performance, concentrating investment in an established platform rather than a separate development programme.

In a statement, Michael Lohscheller, Chief Executive of Polestar, said: “Polestar 4 has quickly established itself as a favourite among our customers, and we’ve seen strong demand from drivers who want distinctive design and performance combined with great practicality. With Polestar 4 SUV, we’re building on that success by offering even more versatility, while staying true to the Polestar 4 character. Wrapped in a stunning design, this is a car I’ve been looking forward to sharing with the world.”
