Pony.ai and Qatari national mobility provider Mowasalat (Karwa) have set out the progress of their commercial robotaxi service in Doha at the second Autonomous e-Mobility Forum. The autonomous driving firm also demonstrated Gen-7 robotaxis operating without an onboard safety operator at the event, held from 7 to 9 September at the Qatar National Convention Centre.

The Doha service charges fares through the Karwa app, covering commercial districts and landmarks across Old Doha and West Bay, including the Doha Corniche and the National Museum of Qatar. An airport connection links Hamad International Airport to the city, serving commuters, transfers and leisure trips.

Public-road testing began in August 2025, with a commercial pilot launched that December with trained safety operators onboard. Qatar’s Ministry of Transport said in July that passenger satisfaction and safety performance had exceeded initial targets, and that operating and technical systems were “ready for the broader adoption of autonomous services”.

Dr. James Peng, Founder and Chief Executive of Pony.ai, said: “Doha demonstrates how Robotaxis can be integrated into a modern urban transportation system, offering residents and visitors a safe, comfortable and consistent way to travel while adding capacity to the broader network. Together with Mowasalat, we have built a strong operational foundation and look forward to advancing this work in support of a smarter, more sustainable transportation system in Qatar.”
