Renault Group has surpassed one million electric vehicles produced in France since 2010, with its northern France production hub Electricity accounting for 600,000 of that total. The milestone reflects an investment of €13bn (US$14.95bn) in French EV manufacturing since 2021, with the group pledging a further €13bn under its futuREady mid-term plan.

The Electricity hub in Douai and Maubeuge has become the leading European centre for electric vehicle production in five years. The Renault 5 E-Tech electric is driving that acceleration: 100,000 units were produced by end of 2025, with the site on track to exceed 200,000 since launch.

Electricity’s scope has grown beyond Renault to include Alpine, Nissan and Mitsubishi vehicles, with Ford production also planned. The expansion illustrates how a nationally anchored production model can attract third-party mandates and scale output in ways a purely domestic strategy rarely achieves.

Renault Group employs around 39,000 people directly across its French sites, with a further 35,000 indirect jobs in the supplier network. Between 2022 and 2025, 700 permanent positions were created at Electricity, with a further 300 being recruited by 2027.

François Provost, Chief Executive of Renault Group, described the milestone as “a source of collective pride,” linking it to the group’s long-term commitment to France and its bid to maintain sovereign industrial capability against lower-cost international EV competition.
