Rivian has partnered with ChargeScape, the automaker-owned vehicle-grid integration platform, to enrol Rivian’s electric vehicle (EV) batteries in utility managed-charging programmes across North America. ChargeScape is backed by BMW, Ford, Honda and Nissan and used by Tesla, Stellantis and others; the partnership makes Rivian’s high-capacity batteries available as flexible grid assets to support peak demand management.

Rivian drivers can opt into ChargeScape’s utility programmes, with the brand’s large battery packs providing meaningful flexible capacity for grid balancing while both drivers and utilities gain from the arrangement. The partnership enables managed-charging enrolment through Rivian’s existing vehicle app, allowing customers to reduce charging costs while simultaneously supporting grid resilience.

US utilities face growing pressure from data centre demand, with ChargeScape addressing this by aggregating flexible capacity from the almost seven million EVs currently on American roads through a shared, automaker-built platform. Rivian’s integration adds some of the largest battery packs available in consumer EVs to ChargeScape’s growing flexible capacity pool.
