Solaris has won a tender to supply up to 70 Urbino 12 electric buses to Dopravní podnik Ostrava (DPO) in the Czech Republic, after submitting the most advantageous bid. The deal is one of the largest electric bus tenders completed to date in the country, with deliveries scheduled for 2027 to 2028.

The order covers two 12-metre battery-electric variants designed for different transport tasks, with one offering a range of up to 350 kilometres per charge and the other up to 250 kilometres. Solaris said the mix would let DPO match vehicles to the requirements of individual routes, with charging primarily carried out via plug-in connections overnight at the depot.

All vehicles will be equipped with air conditioning, advanced safety systems and standard features aimed at passenger comfort. The deal is also one of the largest vehicle purchases in DPO’s history, with the first contracted buses expected on Ostrava’s streets as early as 2027.

Solaris has delivered more than 450 buses and trolleybuses to Ostrava to date, and the new order builds on a relationship dating back to 2021, when DPO ordered 24 Urbino 12 electric buses and charging infrastructure in Solaris’s first Czech electric bus contract. The manufacturer said the latest deal would significantly increase the scale of zero-emission bus transport in the city.
