Stellantis, Wayve and Uber sign level 4 robotaxi MoU
Stellantis, Wayve and Uber have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop and deploy level 4 driverless robotaxi services globally, combining vehicle engineering, AI driving software and a mobility platform in a single collaboration. The deal brings together Stellantis’ L4-Ready Platforms™, Wayve’s end-to-end AI and Uber’s global ride-hailing network, targeting deployment across Europe, North America and beyond.
The collaboration extends existing bilateral relationships: Stellantis and Wayve recently announced a level 2++ agreement for hands-free driving, while Wayve and Uber are already deploying autonomous rides in London, Tokyo and 10 other cities this year. The MoU covers future agreements on technology development, licensing, production and vehicle procurement.

Wayve’s software is designed to adapt across different driving conditions without city-by-city mapping, enabling faster deployment in new markets. Vehicle integration, testing and validation work will focus on cities across Europe and North America.
In a statement, Ned Curic, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Stellantis, said: “This collaboration brings us closer to delivering a smarter, safer and more efficient mobility for our customers.”
Kaity Fischer, Vice-President, Commercial & Operations at Wayve, added: “This partnership brings together three leaders, each with our own strengths: Stellantis’ vehicle expertise, Uber’s global mobility platform and Wayve’s embodied AI.”
Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber, added: “Together with Stellantis and Wayve, we’re excited to bring safe, reliable autonomy to more riders around the world.”
Why this matters:
- The stack is consolidating around a three-layer model.Vehicle manufacturer, AI software provider, and distribution platform are emerging as the distinct roles in commercial autonomy—and this deal suggests the industry is settling on that division of labour rather than continuing to bet on vertically integrated players doing all three.
- Wayve’s mapless approach is gaining traction as the scalability argument. The ability to deploy across cities without bespoke mapping or local re-engineering is increasingly the differentiator that attracts partners; if that holds at scale, it may reshape how OEMs and fleet operators evaluate AV software vendors more broadly.
- An MoU is not a deployment. The non-binding nature of the agreement means execution risk remains substantial—three-way partnerships of this complexity have historically struggled to move from framework to commercial rollout, and the announcement says little about timeline, unit volumes, or target markets. Regardless, Wayve and Uber continue to collaborate on an imminent robotaxi launch in London.
