Toyota props up Japanese car sales growth
Japanese passenger car registration growth was narrowly positive in August 2026, up 1.4% year-on-year to 252,908 units, according to Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) data. This continues a trend that started in April, following the discontinuation of environmental performance tax on car purchases at the end of March, which led to a release of pent-up demand from earlier in the year.
