Venti Technologies has signed a long-term agreement with a North American Class 1 railroad to deploy driverless trucks at US intermodal terminals, marking the first full-production use of autonomous container-handling vehicles at a large US intermodal facility. The railroad’s identity and financial terms have not been disclosed.

Venti’s precision-navigation technology, comprising software, sensors and components installed in customised trucks, will enable vehicles to load, move and unload containers in fully operating rail yards without a driver. The initial deployment covers two of the busiest intermodal facilities in the United States, with a joint steering committee governing implementation and milestones.

The agreement targets more than 100 autonomous container-moving trucks across eight of the railroad’s sites by 2027, growing to more than 600 by the end of the decade. Venti states it is the only company outside China to have operationalised physical AI autonomy for moving goods in heavy-logistics environments.
