Xiaomi EV has unveiled the SkyNomad Series, the first model built on its new Kunlun Platform, as a large, reconfigurable family SUV with a flat cabin floor running from the front row to the boot. The range launches in two variants: the seven-seat N90 Max at CN¥299,900 (US$44,985) and the five-seat all-wheel-drive N70 Max at CN¥259,900 (US$38,985).

Both are extended-range electric vehicles, with battery capacity from 52 kWh to 76 kWh. On China’s CLTC cycle, the N70 Max reaches up to 505 km on electric power alone, while the N90 Max reaches 464 km electric and 1,705 km combined with its range-extending engine and fuel tank.

Xiaomi built the flat floor into the Kunlun Platform’s structure itself, compressing the front cabin and relocating suspension and battery components to free up interior height. The N90 Max seats seven with up to 1,831 litres of cargo space, and Xiaomi’s Kunlun Total Safety system covers the body structure, 12 standard airbags and the battery pack.

The SUV also ships with LiDAR, radar and a voice-controlled driving assistance system built on Xiaomi’s XLA architecture. Pre-orders opened on 30 July at 21:00, secured with a CN¥1,000 (US$150) deposit.

Why this matters:

• The interior-first design philosophy is the genuine differentiator, not the range figures.Reversing the conventional sequence produces the flat floor, 1,938mm seat rails, and reconfigurable seating that Chinese family SUV buyers have come to expect from Li Auto and Aito, but executed on a purpose-built platform rather than adapted from an existing architecture.
• CN¥259,900-299,900 undercuts the segment’s incumbents meaningfully.Li Auto’s L9 and Aito’s M9 both sit above CN¥300,000; Xiaomi arriving below that threshold with comparable or superior interior space and a 1,705km combined range puts immediate pressure on the two brands that together accounted for seven of the top ten EREV SUV sellers in China last year.
• The Kunlun platform’s EREV architecture with a 76 kWh battery reframes the product category.At 464-505km of EV-only range, most owners will rarely engage the range extender in daily use. The ICE component exists for long-distance confidence rather than routine operation, which is the same logic that has made Li Auto’s formula commercially dominant.
