HEVO Inc., a New York-based Tier 1 wireless charging supplier, has been issued US patent 12,700,758 B2 covering systems and methods for HEVO roadway charging of electric vehicles while in motion. The technology describes an array of wireless charging pads positioned along roadways, each transferring electrical power wirelessly to vehicle-mounted receivers as the vehicle travels.

Key aspects include bidirectional power flow supporting both vehicle charging and energy return to the grid, and adjacent pad-to-pad power transfer. The patent also covers layered pad construction and integration with fixed power stations, mobile depots and roadside batteries.

“This patent issuance represents an important expansion of HEVO’s intellectual property portfolio in dynamic wireless charging,” said Jeremy McCool, Founder and Chief Executive, HEVO. McCool said the technology was fundamental to reducing range anxiety and improving fleet utilisation, with HEVO advancing both stationary and in-road wireless charging solutions.

The patent was filed on 17 October 2022, claiming priority to a provisional application of 18 October 2021. Inventors listed include Jeremy McCool, Umer Anwer, Kerim Colak, Kunal Kamle and Luke Mansfield, all of Brooklyn, New York.

The patent advances HEVO’s position in high-power wireless charging for fleet operators, logistics providers, OEMs and roadway infrastructure. The technology complements HEVO’s Rezonant wireless charging hardware and Journey platform.
