MAN launches TGX Truckers’ Edition with driver-led design

MAN Truck & Bus has unveiled the TGX Truckers’ Edition at the Truck Grand Prix at the Nürburgring, a special edition long-haul tractor developed in direct collaboration with around 350 professional drivers through the company’s Truckers’ World community. The vehicle is based on the TGX 18.560 4×2 and is aimed at small and medium-sized haulage operators seeking a high-specification driver environment without post-delivery customisation.

The drivetrain is the MAN D30 in-line six-cylinder unit producing 560hp and 2,800Nm, paired with the MAN TipMatic 14 transmission to form the PowerLion package. MAN claims fuel and CO2 savings of around 5% over the predecessor D26-engined model, attributing the improvement to the engine’s efficiency of over 50% combined with further aerodynamic optimisation. Assistance systems include MAN EfficientCruise with PredictiveDrive, EBA Plus emergency brake assist, and a turning assistant.

Driver-specified interior equipment runs to comfort seats with heating and climate control, the MAN ComfortSteering electronic steering system, an electric parking cooler, a 24-inch television, a wardrobe combination on the rear cab wall, and a dedicated TV recliner. Practical additions include automatic fifth wheel coupling detection, electronic fuel theft protection, and the MAN OptiView digital mirror replacement system.

The exterior, also shaped by driver input, features cab-colour front sections, black wheel rims, a black sun visor, a roof bar with integrated LED light bar, and air horns. The launch colour is Mojave Beige Metallic, though the edition will be available in other colours. Each vehicle is delivered with an additional package including a CB radio with hands-free function, floor mats, wind deflectors, a fitted sheet for the comfort bed, and a branded leather jacket.

The TGX Truckers’ Edition will be offered across European markets. “This is not an ordinary model, but the result of an intensive dialogue with our community,” said Stefan Schall, managing director truck, van and used at MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland.

Why this matters:

  • Co-developing a specification with 350 working drivers is a product strategy, not a marketing exercise. The resulting equipment list—parking cooler, climate seats, 24-inch television, anti-theft protection—reflects the actual priorities of owner-operators and small fleet managers rather than feature assumptions made in a design studio, and positions MAN to compete on driver retention at a moment when the European haulage industry’s recruitment crisis makes cab quality a genuine procurement variable.
  • A 5% fuel saving over an already efficient predecessor carries real commercial weight. At the operating volumes of long-haul transport, incremental efficiency gains translate directly into total cost of ownership arguments that matter more to small and medium hauliers than any premium feature—making the PowerLion drivetrain the practical case that justifies the Truckers’ Edition’s price point.
