Micron Technology and General Motors have signed a Strategic Customer Agreement (SCA) securing long-term memory and storage supply for GM’s vehicle platforms, covering low-power DRAM, NOR and UFS NAND products. The deal also commits both firms to joint technology development for next-generation vehicle architectures.

The agreement is underpinned by Micron’s US$2bn investment to modernise its Manassas, Virginia fabrication facility, which began production earlier in 2026. The domestic manufacturing base is designed to support the extended product lifecycles and supply continuity that automotive programmes require, with advanced DRAM production anchoring the committed supply.

Memory and storage demand in vehicles is rising as software-defined platforms, AI-enabled cabin systems and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) require higher-performance, higher-capacity components. The SCA includes collaboration on system-level optimisation and qualification of future memory technologies to align with GM’s product roadmap.
