Mobileye maps the ADAS regulatory landscape for 2026

In analysis published by Mobileye, mandatory European Union (EU) vehicle safety requirements are set to expand in July 2026, with China also finalising enforceable standards for higher levels of driving automation. The changes are part of a global shift in which advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) are moving from optional features toward legally required baseline capabilities.

A second wave of EU General Safety Regulation (GSR) requirements takes effect in July 2026, adding mandatory thresholds for autonomous emergency braking (AEB), intelligent speed assistance (ISA) and driver attention monitoring. Because many global platforms are developed to EU standards, these requirements routinely influence vehicle architecture well beyond European markets.

Regulators are also increasing scrutiny of Driver Control Assistance Systems (DCAS), defined as systems providing sustained steering and speed assistance without fully assuming the driving task. The focus centres on maintaining driver supervision and readiness to intervene, with Mobileye integrating its driver monitoring into its ADAS platform as a fused capability.

In the United States, federal regulators rely on voluntary frameworks and safety reporting, while individual states retain authority over automated vehicle deployment. China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is preparing mandatory Level 3 and Level 4 automation requirements, targeting a July 2027 date.
