Nippon Seiki to absorb Denso’s global HUD division

The Nippon Seiki HUD acquisition was confirmed on 28 August 2026, when the Japanese instruments maker signed a business transfer agreement with Denso Corporation covering development, manufacturing and sales operations across Japan, China, Spain, the United States and Mexico. Closing is planned for 26 February 2027, subject to competition clearance and customer approval.

Under the terms of the agreement, Nippon Seiki will acquire production equipment and intellectual property rights tied to Denso’s head-up display (HUD) business. Denso’s staff, land and buildings are excluded from the deal; Nippon Seiki plans to run the acquired business using its own workforce, while consigning production back to Denso for a transitional period.

The transaction reflects growing demand for windshield-projected driver information systems. The global HUD market grew approximately 1.25 times year-on-year in 2024, with installation rates passing 10% across all vehicles, and analysts project volume will reach 21 million units by 2035, driven significantly by Chinese automakers.

Nippon Seiki, which produced 2.1 million HUD units in fiscal year 2026, said the deal will strengthen its cost competitiveness and global supply capacity. The company’s medium-term management plan targets consolidated sales of 400 billion yen (US$2.52 billion) by fiscal year 2030, with HUD growth identified as a core strategic priority.
