Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA), AMPORTS and Port Freeport have established a vehicle logistics collaboration on the Texas Gulf Coast, targeting faster distribution to Gulf and Midwest dealer networks. MMNA began operations at the port on 28 April 2026 with more than 500 vehicles processed, ahead of a formal launch ceremony on 1 July.

Vehicles arrive by vessel and pass through AMPORTS stevedoring to on-site processing, where accessorisation is completed before distribution. The port’s location cuts inland transport distances to Gulf and Midwest dealers.

MMNA has maintained a logistics relationship with AMPORTS since 1983, with Port Freeport now its third US port under that arrangement. The expansion forms part of Mitsubishi Motors North America’s Momentum 2030 mid-term business plan.

In a statement, Ken Konieczka, Senior Vice-President of Sales Operations at Mitsubishi Motors North America, said: “As we continue to focus our efforts on delivering Momentum 2030, our mid-term business plan, the addition of Port Freeport to our U.S. distribution system will be key to improving efficiency, reducing waste and speeding up deliveries to our dealer partners throughout the Gulf and the Midwest. This collaboration allows us to take advantage of a strategically located port and a coordinated set of services that support how we move vehicles today, and to set our network up for tomorrow.”
