QNX, a division of BlackBerry, has announced support for the Hailo-8 AI Accelerator on QNX Software Development Platform 8.0, giving developers building AI-powered edge systems access to combined edge AI acceleration and deterministic real-time software. The QNX Hailo integration targets safety- and mission-critical applications including automotive, industrial automation, robotics and software-defined vehicles.

Benchmarking using a Raspberry Pi 5 driving the Hailo-8 on QNX versus a real-time Linux environment showed AI workloads on QNX delivering up to 14x greater performance consistency, 2.6x tighter latency distribution, 4.1% higher throughput and 3.9% lower average latency. The results demonstrate how the combination can build AI-powered systems that are both fast and predictable.

Grant Courville, SVP, Products and Strategy at QNX, said the partnership would help customers turn AI potential into reality by bringing advanced AI capabilities to the edge on a trusted and deterministic software foundation. Max Glover, Chief Revenue Officer at Hailo, said the collaboration would enable advanced AI capabilities across a broader range of embedded applications.

QNX provides real-time software for automotive, medical devices, robotics, industrial controls, commercial vehicles, rail and aerospace. Its technology is deployed by nine of the top ten medical device manufacturers, and the Hailo-8 support extends the range of AI-enabled hardware options available on the platform.
