Traton Group has announced plans to incorporate Red Hat’s In-Vehicle Operating System into Traton One OS, the shared Linux-based software platform that serves all Traton commercial vehicle brands. The partnership, which is non-exclusive, will allow technology partners to build on a unified, safety-certified Linux stack to integrate capabilities across Traton trucks and buses.

In a statement, Stefan Teuchert, Senior Vice President, EE Platform, Traton Group, said: “Linux provides an open and scalable foundation for Traton One OS. By collaborating with Red Hat, we are making it easier for technology partners to work with our software platform and contribute new capabilities for future commercial vehicles.”

Customers benefit from vehicle functions that are easier to maintain and refresh throughout the vehicle’s working life. Technology providers and suppliers gain clearer integration paths through common interfaces and container-based tooling, which Traton says will reduce the time and cost of introducing capabilities into the truck software platform.

Traton retains overall responsibility for the platform’s architecture and safety obligations under the agreement, which forms part of the group’s broader software-defined vehicle strategy. Commercial vehicles are increasingly updated throughout their operating life, and Traton says the adoption of open technologies and standardised interfaces forms part of its response to this shift.
